3/4 cup raw hazelnuts
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
Yes, it’s possible to make a healthy and delicious version of your beloved Nutella! With only 3 natural ingredients.
Don’t be fooled by the advertising. Nutella’s main ingredient is, surprisingly, sugar (55%). The second main ingredient is palm oil – a semi-solid unhealthy mostly saturated fat that’s used to give Nutella its spreadable texture. Its true content of hazelnuts is only 13%. To top it off, it also contains an emulsifier
soy lecithin – a common chemical that keeps the sugar, oil, nuts, and cocoa nicely blended, and vanillin, which is the synthetic form identical to the natural vanilla, except it’s another chemical.
The good news is we can enjoy a homemade hazelnut spread with a creamy texture and an incredible flavor! This recipe proves that eating well doesn’t have to be boring. It’s worth replacing the store-bought version with this nutritious and natural option!
Instructions:
Hydrate the dates for 5 minutes in hot water.
In a food processor, add the hazelnuts and process until you get something like a course, moist flour.
Drain the dates and reserve the water.
Add the dates to the food processor and process until you get a consistent well-mixed paste.
Add the date water in small quantities until you have the desired consistency.
Lastly, add the cocoa powder and process until blended.
Enjoy!
